suncreens flatlay with 4 different sun creams

Summer was supposed to have arrived in the UK but looking out the window while writing this post you wouldn't think so. Even though at this moment the sun isn't shining hopefully we will get some soon and some of you may have a holiday booked so I thought id put together all of my favourite sunscreens that are designed for the face! Not a lot of people know this but even in the Winter we should be wearing SPF to stay protected so this post will be useful all year round.

Environ RAD Spf 15

Whenever I recommend this product to either friends or clients the first thing they always say is that factor 15 isn't enough but that's not true, If you apply sun cream every two hours whilst your out in the sun your skin will be fully protected (I explain more about how SPF works in my Tips & Tricks By A Beauty Therapist: Why We Need SPF), This sun cream technically can used on the body as well but it is specifically designed to be used on the face, I actually use this product a lot on clients at the salon. The main thing I love about this sun cream is that it doesn't leave that nasty white cast on the skin and it actually leaves it looking moisturised. The texture of this cream is very creamy, light and it absorbs into the skin really quickly making it really comfortable to wear.

This suncream is a combination of a physical sun cream (contains inorganic ingredients such as Titanium dioxide which reflects UV rays) and a chemical sun cream (contains organic chemicals which absorbs a certain amount of UV rays and the chemicals in the sun cream break it up) which make it a broad spectrum SPF to keep the skin fully protected. This sun cream also contains Antioxidants which enhances protection from harmful environmental factors. RAD can only be purchased from an accredited salon which you can find on their salon finder.

Main Benefits
  • Protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays
  • Suitable to use under makeup
  • Has a light satiny texture
  • Doesn't leave a white cast on the skin
  • Added antioxidants

Mimitika Face Suncream SPF 5O

This is a newer sun cream to my collection as I only got it in my May Birchbox. I haven't used this cream as much as I would like because I wanted to save as much as possible to use on my holiday. When I did try it out the best part about this sun cream is the texture, it is pretty light and doesn't feel heavy or sticky once applied to the skin. White cast on this skin is really my most hated thing about wearing sun protection but this cream doesn't do this at all as it soaks into the skin in seconds. Another thing I love about this sun cream is that it doesn't contain any nasty ingredients like parabens and allergens and is suitable for vegans. I also like that this suncream has a small amount of scent which is actually really fresh and sort of like cocoa butter!

This sun cream also has the added ingredient of vitamin E which helps to neutralise free radicals and deeply moisturize the skin, leaving it feeling super soft. Doing some research this sun cream which has high protection of SPF 50 is also a broad spectrum defence against UVA and UVB rays. This sun cream also has an added ingredient which helps stimulate the melanin production which will give the skin a nice and even looking tan.

Main Benefits
  • A lightweight formula which soaks into the skin nice and quickly
  • Non-greasy and Non-oily
  • High protection against UVA and UVB rays
  • Contains a natural ingredient which helps stimulate melanin
  • Neutralises free radicals
  • Moisturising

Polaar Velvety Sun Fluid for Face and Body SPF 30

If you have been reading my blog for a while you would have seen me mention this product in numerous posts like my Summer Skincare Essentials and my Summer Body Care Guide. This sun cream is really different from any other that I've tried before, it feels more like skin lotion than a sun cream.  The white cast with this suncream is also non-existent which is a massive plus for this product. This sun cream is also really lightweight which helps the skin to breathe and not clog the pores making it perfect to use on the face. For a sun cream, this product also includes anti ageing properties to fight the signs of premature ageing. Another plus about this suncream is that it has a really lovely fresh scent but it doesn't actually linger and it goes once it sinks into the skin.

Polaar Velvety sun fluid helps to absorb UVA and UVB rays for some of the healthy vitamins from the sun like vitamin D which we all need. This sun cream has the added ingredients of a rich blend of sunflower oils and soybean extracts which work together at nourishing and moisturising the skin while protecting it. Even though this sun cream is an SPF 30 you are still advised to apply it generously and every two hours for maximum protection.

Main Benefits
  • High protection from UVA and UVB rays
  • Paraben and Mineral oil free
  • Water resistant
  • Can be used daily
  • Will not irritate the skin on the face.

Malibu Face Suncream High Protection SPF 50

Finally, we have a drugstore/highstreet face SPF that really works and giving the skin sun protection. This suncream is specifically designed for the sensitive skin on our faces. I brought this product on a whim a few weeks ago and it came with one of the Malibu lip balms which I love and have actually written about in my The Best Lip Balms For Dry Lips Post. This is another sun cream that doesn't have that horrible white cast and leaves the skin on my face feeling amazingly smooth. When I tried out this sun cream it really felt like it was coming from a more high-end product. The consistency is really thin which I like as it doesn't make the skin feel greasy or oily. Another thing I love out this sun cream is that it doesn't have that horrible suncream smell and it literally smells of nothing.

This is another suncream which gives really high protection against UVA and UVB rays. It also has the added ingredients of Vitamin E which act as an antioxidant and Aloe Vera which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properites which calm the skin. This sun cream is an SPF 50 but you are still advised to apply it regularly to be constantly protected from the sun. I am also almost certain that this suncream is cruelty-free as it says on the back of the product that it's only tested on humans!

Main Benefits
  • Contains Vitamin E and Aloe Vera
  • High SPF 50
  • Protects against UVA and UVB rays
  • Non-whitening
  • Thin consistency
  • No smell

Out of all the sun protection products that I've tried in the past (which is a lot) these 4 sunscreens are definitely my favourite. Have you tried any of these products before?

  1. I've been looking for some face sun protection, so this is so helpful! Nothing worse than having greasy suncream on, so wanted to get a face-specific one x

  2. I haven't tried any of these! I'm so big on SPF so I'm really happy you added the bit about needing it in winter too! I love the sound of the Mimitika one. Is that mineral or chemical? For some reason my skin reacts to mineral formulas x

    1. There are definitely days when I forget to apply it and I’m kicking myself because I know it’s bad for my skin but I’ve put it with my other skincare products now to make it easier! X

  4. I've not tried any of these products but I like the sound of the Mimitika one. I've been using a Greek one since last year, Frezyderm, it's like a gel that dries down matt and you can wear make up on top if required. It doesn't block my pores either and with oily skin that's a bonus! Lisa x

  5. Finding that perfect sunscreen can be such a challenge. I haven't tried any of these brands, so I'll have to take a peek and see if they are available around here. My go to for a couple years now has been Neutrogena.

  6. This post was right on time! I had the hardest time finding ba sunscreen that doesn't leave me looking greasy or like a ghost😂 or irritates my super sensitive skin! Thanks for providing more options because the commercial brands like Neutrogena just didn't work for me.

  8. I’ve been needing a new sunscreen! I’m always debating between the same few, so this came just in time before the sun is too high in the sky. Most sunscreen I’ve tried always feel so thick on the face. The Mimitika Face Suncream looks like exactly what I need - as long as it soaks in the skin quickly and isn't sticky I’m all for it!
