At the moment the world is a very strange place and if your living in the UK we are currently in a county-wide lockdown meaning we can only go out for one exercise and food shop a day or any other medical-related reasons! While sitting at home I came up with the idea of this post to help anyone struggling with boredom at home (including me). In today's post, I'll be sharing with you 5 things to keep you occupied during the lockdown!

Declutter and reorganise your makeup collection

This is one that I have just started doing at home since the lockdown started. I don't know about you all but when I clean and tidy things it always makes me feel better and less stressed so going through my makeup is the best distraction. As we don't actually know how long we are going to be in lockdown for I would suggest doing this gradually for example for the first day you can take everything out of your collection and look through what needs chucking, donating or sold (if it hasn't been used or can be sanitised) and then go from there day to day. Once you have decided what you want to keep here comes the fun part, reorganising, you can decide how to set out your makeup and how to store it. I am also trying not to make any unnecessary purchases during this lockdown so use what makeup storage you already have and make it more neat and efficient for you to use. Once you have finished with your makeup collection you can also declutter other things like your clothes, skincare products, body care items and hair care and with all of this to do how can you get bored?

Find a new book to get stuck into

My blog mainly focuses on beauty but books also hold a very special place in my heart and in times like these there nothing better than a book to get stuck into. For me, I use a kindle and I'm obsessed because I can get any book I want without leaving the comfort of my bed, but you can also get books on your phone or at last resort you can order online. The genre of books that I really enjoy reading are either romance, YA, thrillers and comedy books and if I'm completely in love with it I can get lost in the book and forget about everything else that's going on around me. The book that I'm reading at the moment is All The Bright Places which I have actually read before but its such a beautiful book that I had to reread it. I won't give too much away if you haven't read it or watched the new movie on Netflix but this book is so beautifully written and it is sad but also really uplifting at times.

Practice makeup looks

Whenever I'm bored at home I always go straight to my dressing table and look through all of my makeup and think of all the crazy looks I can do. Knowing that we won't be going anywhere for a while it is the perfect time to try out all the different looks that you've always wanted to try but either never had the time or it isn't really acceptable to wear a bright green and yellow eyeshadow looks to work. A way I like to make this a little bit more fun is that I look on Instagram and Pinterest and find all different eyeshadow looks that I've always wanted to try and then I recreate them using my own products and techniques. Doing this will help to pass the time but it is also beneficial because you can get more practice in and improve your makeup skills. I actually did a post last year Recreating looks from Pinterest if you would like to check it out.

Do the thing you always put off doing

Before the country went into lockdown I always said there was things I wanted and needed to do at home but I never got round to it because I was always too busy (or too lazy) to get it done until now. I have found that since I have not been working (I work in a solo so I cant work from home) that I have actually become a lot more productive an getting things done in the flat that I probably wouldn't do before. Some of the things I have done is sort out my hallway cupboards, I have two that were a complete mess and now they are tidy and organised which makes me feel so much better. I also did tasks like sorting out under my bed which basically took me all day and cleaning out my kitchen cupboards. I have found that if I set myself a task to do each day I am occupied throughout the whole day and I don't get bored.

Binge watch series and movies

This is probably something that we have all been doing anyway but I know I had to add it onto this list. I am someone who actually binges series anyway but now I have more of an excuse and I don't feel bad if I've watched a whole series in a day. I mainly watch series on Netflix but I also have Amazon prime so there is always something to watch even if I moan and say there isn't. I've actually been rewatching Gossip Girl for the 20th time but I still love it every time! I also like watching series that have a twist in them like How to Get Away With Murder and Line of Duty which are both amazing.

Pin For Later...

I hope this list of things helps you get through the next hopefully few weeks. Keeping occupied is really important and it also helps to keep you in a routine which is always good. What have you been up to this lockdown?

  1. Just this morning I thought to myself: everyone's gonna look so great after quarantine with all this time to practice makeup looks! Not that I have much experience with makeup, but even I considered giving it another try because why not? More than enough time and no one will see it if I looks weird.

  2. These are strange times indeed. And these are some great ideas on how to kill time. Decluttering is always a good one to tackle, we have so much STUFF at home, most of which we never use! x

  4. You've got some great ideas here. I have a Scribd membership and have had a few books saved to read for far, far too long now - I think that this is the time to finally make it happen! I am working on getting a blog post out later today and then I think I'll allow myself to curl up with a book for a bit. Sounds like a relaxing way to spend a Monday afternoon. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. Decluttering has been a big part of my life. After I finished with the house, I moved on to the yard and shed. Getting lost in a good book or show is a wonderful follow-up to relax, but I love your suggestions for trying new make-up looks!

  6. Genius ideas Aaliyah! I finally
cleaned underneath my bed and it was such a relief.😂 You're absolutely right, this is the perfect time to attack those tasks we've been putting on back burner. I also been reading more and it's cool because we both like the same genres. I'll have to check out your suggestion of All The Bright Places📖👌🏾
