On a recent trip to Superdrug I came across the new launch of products from Revolution and had to get it. Revolution has recently released their Matte Base collection which I think was literally made just for me! I got the foundation and concealer to test out and review for you guys.

First Thoughts

I saw these products be released a few weeks ago on the Revolution Twitter page and I was instantly intrigued. Matte foundation is always my go to because I have oily skin I like to look as matte as possible. The shade range again is amazing with 24 shades for the foundation and concealer meaning there should be a shade for everyone. The price of these products is also so amazing with the foundation being £5 and the concealer £3! making it especially purse friendly. The shades I got for the foundation is F8 and the concealer is C7.

Packaging

The packaging for all of the Revolution face products has the nude and rose gold in common. For the product being really cheap the packaging of both the products is actually really nice and looks like it would be a lot more expensive than it actually is.

The packaging of the foundation is a squeezy tube different from the Conceal and Define foundation (you can read my review for that foundation here) which has a glass bottle, I quite like the fact that this product is a squeezy bottle because once you get to the end of the foundation you can get as much product out as you can. The bottle is in a nude shade with a rose gold mirrored trim. This product also has a swatch of the foundation colour on the front, making it easier to see what shade you want to go for.

For the concealer, the packaging is a little different because the product is actually a stick concealer which I haven't used in years. The component of the concealer also has the nude shade on the bottom with a clear lid so you can see the product and wrapped around the lid is a rose gold mirrored sticker with the product name.

Product Amount

I was actually pretty surprised about the product amount for these products because they had quite a bit more than I expected. The Matte Base foundation has 28ml of foundation where the Conceal and Define foundation has a bit less at 23ml and by looking at the packaging size you would think it would be the other way around. The concealer actually has quite a lot of product at 8ml and the normal conceal and define (you can read my full review of this product here) liquid concealer has 4ml so half the amount!

First Impression

I was really looking forward to trying out these products as I really haven't heard that much about them because they are quite new releases. I tried out the foundation and concealer together while getting ready for work. To apply the foundation I squeezed out a bit of the foundation onto the back of my hand and dotted it around my face to blend out. I quite liked that it was a squeeze tube because I didn't waste any product and I could squeeze out as much as I needed. The foundation blended out really quickly into my skin which I was really impressed about, I also found that it didn't dry down to quick either making it so much easier to blend.

Once I had blended the foundation out I realised I may have got the wrong shade, the colour wasn't too far off but it was slightly more on the pink side for me.  I then added the concealer, I really enjoyed applying it in the stick form. This concealer is pretty matte and applies to the skin matte straight away. I also found the blendability of this product to be really great and took no time. To tone down the pinkness of the foundation I applied more of the concealer in c7 which has a yellow undertone and that really worked. The coverage of this foundation is definitely full coverage, I only applied a small amount first and it was medium but after a second layer it was very full coverage with me only needing to do a small amount of concealing my imperfections

When I had finished applying both products I noticed that the foundation wasn't completely matte, there were areas like around my nose that I still needed to powder but the finish overall was really lovely.

Throughout the course of the day, I did need to powder my face a few times for it to be completely matte but it was mainly my nose that had the issue (as always). I found that the foundation did wear away around my nose quite a bit but that isn't abnormal for me. Everywhere else on my face the product stayed on really well all day.

Pin For Later...

Overall I really enjoyed using both of the products and have still been using them since I got them, I'm going to try different primers to get the nose situation under control. Would you try out this foundation & concealer?

  1. These products sound like such good value for money! I have oily areas on my face too but am just trying out a NYX foundation right now. I'm definitely going to look out for these next time I'm in Superdrug though!

  2. I love Revolution products as it's such an affordable brand and from the products I've tried, they also have great quality too. While I tend not to use a lot of foundation, I love the idea of the stick concealer for little touch ups! Thanks for sharing your honest review and going through the packaging etc, it's so helpful. Thanks for sharing x

  3. I picked up a few new Revolution products last week and I nearly got this but I was worried it would be too matte for me. I think I was right not to get it based on what you've said here but I'm glad it's working well for you! I was so confused when I saw the stick concealer, it felt like such a throwback! Love the foundation packaging, so pretty x

  4. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous! I personally wouldn't use this make up as it's not for my skin type at all even the conceal and define foundation can be too matte for me!I'm so glad it's working for you though!

  5. I don't tend to for matte finishes, I found that it was not really helping my dehydrated skin, but I have heard good things about Revolution's base products, so far I have only tried their eyeshadow palette with SophDoesNails. The concealer I could get away with, does it feel heavy on the skin?

  8. I don't tend to wear foundation as it slips off my face by lunchtime, sadly. But these look super affordable and their staying power seems to be above normal so I might have think agagin the next time I'm out shopping! Great review and stunning photos as always, thank you for sharing your recommendations :)

  9. I used to be obsessed with matte base products but since my skin has gotten a lot dryer, I found they sit horribly on my skin! I am definitely a conceal and define kinda girl but it is quite shocking that there's quite a bit less product for more money. Maybe if they changed the packaging they could charge less! I do find it annoying that you can't really get the last bits out. Make up Revolution are fab though, so glad these worked well for you, what a bargain!
