While I'm writing this post in the UK we are currently in Lockdown 3.0! If you're like me and you get your brows done regularly then this is the post for you. Messing around with your brows when they have been done by a beauty therapist can really mess up the shape of your brows for months and we all know how devastating that can be! In today's post, I'll be sharing with you how to care for your brows at home this lockdown.

Do Not Over Pluck!

I cannot stress this one enough, do not over pluck your brows. I'm sure we have all seen pictures of people back in the day with extra thin brows from over plucking and when you do this for a certain amount of time it can cause the hairs to just not grow back in that area. When a professional does your brows they take the time to map put your brows and they find the right shape to fit your face and when you over-pluck and get carried away you mess the shape of your brows and this can take ages to fix. I have this a lot with my clients who usually only go around 4 weeks in between brow appointments and I would usually tell them to not pluck at all but since we don't have an exact date for when we'll be back in the salon I would recommend people to only pluck the pesky hairs if necessary.  If you are able to leave your brows alone that would be great but if you're like me you won't be able to then only pluck the hairs that really need removing and try not to mess with the shape of your brows.

Get an at-home tinting kit

This tip I wouldn't recommend everyone doing only if you feel confident enough to do it because if your brows get tinted too dark it will take a couple of weeks for them to fade. When you get your brows tinted they usually last for around 2-3weeks before they start to fade, probably all of you who regularly have your brows tinted will see that they are probably faded or back to normal by now so this would be a good time to retint them. There are a few things to be aware of before tinting your own brows, firstly you need to make sure that you aren't allergic to the tint, to do this you need to patch test the tint either behind your ear or on the inside of your arm and wait for 24hours for a reaction if there isn't a reaction you are fine to use the tint. Another thing you need to remember is when buying a tint you will need to tint colour and a developer for the product to work, you will need to mix them together before applying them to the brows. The last thing you should know when tinting your brows is how long you're leaving the tint on for, the best way to do it is to apply the tint to both brows and remove the tint after a few seconds for light brows and a few minutes for darker brows if your brows aren't dark enough you can always reapply. The maximum time to leave tint on should be 15mintes any longer could cause sensitivity. I have listed a few tint options if you want to give any a try:

Trim Brow hairs if needed

This is another tip that I would only suggest doing if your confidence enough. Trimming the brow hairs does sound quite scary but this can also keep your brow hairs looking defined for longer. Trimming the hairs should also only be done if that's what your beauty therapist usually does for your brows to keep the shape. If you feel confident enough to trim your brows then here are a few tips that might help you:
  • With a spoolie brush the hairs upwards and only trim the hairs that are outgrown
  • Make sure you have the right type of scissors, nail scissors would work fine but kitchen scissors definitely won't work
  • Work in small sections making sure not to trim too much hair at once

Invest in a growth serum

Having a lockdown is good for many reasons one being it can give you time to grow out your brow hairs if you want without anyone seeing them in a mess. If you have overplucked in the past or your brow hairs just don't grow very quickly then getting a growth serum could be for you. These serums work at thickening, lengthening and fuller-looking brows without the need to fill them in with makeup which I think is great especially during this Lockdown. Some serums like Revitalash can be pretty pricey but looking through amazon you can get some great serums that really work for half the price. These serums don't work instantly so they do need a little time to start working but while we're sitting at home at the moment that's all we have is time!

Leave them be

This last tip may be one of the best ones on this list and that would be to leave your brows alone. Overall as a beauty therapist, I would tell my clients to leave their brows alone throughout the duration of lockdown giving the brows a chance to grow and this will make your therapists life a lot easier when the salons finally open. If you're like me and you cant leave them then the above tips should help to keep your brows tidy without messing up with your shape.

Pin For Later...

Eyebrows might not be the biggest problem throughout lockdown but having shaped and tidy brows help to make you feel good about yourself then I hope these tips and tricks do the job! Will you be brave enough to do your own brows this lockdown?

  1. These are all great tips! I am always the worse when it comes to eyebrows! I used to over pluck them and get a shape I really never liked, but since the first lockdown I started leaving them alone and pluck just whatever i need to keep them tidy. Thanks for sharing this x

    1. Thank you! When I was younger I over plucked my brows and it took me year to grow them back so I could get them shaped properly. The best way is to leave them as much as you can and only pluck the pesky hairs! X

  3. I totally agree with leaving them alone. Especially during quarantine. What better time then when your not supposed to see anyone. This way you can get a fresh shape and reset while no one is looking.

  5. I'm a little bit jealous reading this. I've been leaving mine alone since 2014 and they just don't grow! As in haven't touched a single hair in 6 years. I think I need to invest in one of the serums you mentioned x

  9. I've definitely fell into the over plucking my eyebrows category recently so these tips couldn't have come at a better time. I actually do have a growth serum which I have been using but not religiously so I'll have to keep up with it and hopefully I'll see a difference soon. Thanks for sharing, lovely! x

  10. Great post. Personally, I always leave my brows alone, I'm blonde so my brows are barely visible plus I have a fringe which covers them most of the time! I only pluck them when needed :D
