{Ad - Gifted} National Eye Health Week is only around the corner on the 20th of September and today I want to share with you my Top 4 Tips for Eye Care. I have very kindly been sent a few products from Your Eye Health to share the importance of eye health with their #MeMyselfAndEye campaign. We take care of our skin, hair and nails but we forget to take care of our eyes which is really important because of how much more screen time we are now using. In today's post, I'll be sharing with you Top 4 Eye Care Tips!

I have been wearing glasses now for a few years and since then I have started to take more care of my eyes. I know it's not something we all think about but it is so important that we take better care of our eyes now we are spending so much of our time in front of a screen. If you have experienced dry eyes before you will know how uncomfortable it is and research has found that more than 1 in 7 (15%) of the UK population are suffering from Dry Eye Disease with women and the over 50's beg the worse affected! Some of the symptoms of dry eye disease is suffering from pain, sore or burning sensations in the eyes (48%) and feeling an uncomfortable sensation of having something in their eyes, watery eyes and red eyes and even though these symptoms can be quite painful most people wait for symptoms to go away themselves without seeking treatment. When I first started to notice that my eyes were becoming painful and irritated I was one of those people who just left it until I started to use eye drops and it made such a big difference in my eyes, I added this into my skincare routine so I remember to actually use them!

1. Use eye drops

One of the main things to help soothe my eyes when they became dry and irritated was using eye drops, I used to hate putting things in my eyes but when I started to use contact lenses it became a lot easier. I was sent then Thealoz Duo Relief Fro Dry Eyes drop and gel and I have been using these for a few weeks now and my eyes have become a lot clearer and less irritated. I apply the drops on the days that my eyes are feeling particularly dry and I do 1 drop per eye around 4-6 times a day for immediate relief from dry eye symptoms. These eye drops use a combination of trehalose and hyaluronic acid and they help to protect, hydrate and lubricate the eyes and this helps with moderate to severe dry eye symptoms. If you are someone who works in front of a screen all day or is in an office with loads of aircon I would definitely recommend trying some eye drops, you instantly feel relief from dry eyes and it makes your vision clearer as well!

2. Make sure to thoroughly remove all eye makeup

Another way that your eyes can become irritated is if you are not taking off your eye makeup properly. there have definitely been times when I've come home from a long day or a night out when I really haven't wanted to take my makeup off (lazy) but I make myself do it because I know how irritated it makes my eyes if I sleep in makeup. Our eyelashes are designed to stop things from getting into our eyes so it is very important to clean them daily even if you are not wearing any makeup. I was also very kindly sent over the BlephaClean Daily Eyelid Cleansing wipes that I have now added into my skincare routine, at the end of the day after I've removed my eye makeup with my Simple eye makeup remover I then wipe over my eyes with these wipes to make sure that they are thoroughly clean and free of any makeup or dirt. If you are someone with sensitive eyes then these wipes would be perfect to add to your routine because they are gentle enough for even the most sensitive of eyes.

3. Limit screen time

I know this is probably the hardest thing to do but it is so important that when we can to limit the amount of time that we spend staring at our screens. Using digital screens can further cause dry eyes and it puts an extra burden on the muscles in the eyes. Another way screens can affect our eyes is that when we are looking at screens is that we don't blink our eyes enough and this causes evaporation of the film of tears that protects the surface of the eyes and this will then make your eyes feel dry and irritated. I used to use my phone before bed now I read for a while instead of staring at my phone. If you work using a computer once your day is finished try having a few hours where you do other things that don't involve any screens to help rest your eyes and give them a well-needed break.

4. Wear sunglasses

Another way that we can protect our eyes is by wearing sunglasses. The right pair of sunglasses can help protect the eyes from ultraviolet light (UV) rays. If the eyes are exposed to too much UV light it can make the chance of getting cataracts higher and macular degeneration. When choosing a pair of sunglasses make sure that they block 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Polarized lenses can reduce glare but they don't always offer the best protection and if you are a contact lens wearer like me sometimes they can have UV protection but you may need to also wear a pair of sunglasses on top for extra protection.

Eye health should also be a top priority in our daily routines. Knowing how many people Dry Eye Disease can affect we should also start stating it a lot more seriously and if you add it into your skincare routine it makes it so much easier! What other eye care tips do you have?

Since the pandemic started I've been experiencing more eye pain that usual and the optometrists said to cut down on screen time which is hard, classes are all online still. However I was told to use eyedrops but I had forgotten about it until now. *whoops!* Thanks for sharing!
