If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know that I am a skincare junkie! I have been using skincare properly ever since I was a teen and over the years I have tried so many different products and have found a select number of products that really work. Serum has become one of my all-time favourite products because I have seen some real improvement in my skin when using them and today I'm going to share with you my Top 5 Serums!

Selfless By Hyram Salicylic Acid & Sea Kelp Serum*

Selfless by Hyram is a new brand that I discovered this year, Hyram is a skincare YouTuber that I've been obsessed with for months, I was so excited to try the range and I was very lucky to get gifted the set of products and this serum has become one of my favourites from the range. This serum is described to be an oil-controlling product that contains ingredients like Salicylic Acid and Niacinimide to help reduce oiliness and unclog pores without over-drying the skin. This serum also includes succinic acid that helps to reduce bacteria to help prevent breakouts. It also includes Sea Kelp which helps to protect the skin from pollutant stresses, aids in barrier repair and prevents hydration loss.

I have been using this serum for a few weeks now and have already noticed some differences in my skin. I have oily to combination skin and when I started using this serum my skin was more on the oily side, especially around my nose and forehead, I started using this serum in the evenings for around three weeks before I started to notice my skin becoming less oily, I didn't need to powder my skin as much throughout the day which for me was a major improvement. The consistency of this serum is a little bit different to the others in this list because it is a lot more watery than usual but this means that it spreads better over the face and you don't need as much product. This serum also leaves my skin feeling super smooth and hydrated and I wake up with glowy (not oily) skin which I love.

Selfless By Hyram Mandelic Acid & Rice Bran Gentle Exfoliating Serum*

This serum is another product that I've been obsessed with ever since I had the chance to try it out these products a few months ago. For over a year now I haven't been using any physical exfoliators on my skin, I was way over-exfoliating and I found out that using these products can actually cause micro-tears in the skin that can cause irritation on the skin so I have swapped to using serums like this one. This serum is described as a multifunctional chemical exfoliant that exfoliates the skin effectively but gently, delivering results without irritating the skin. Gentle Mandelic Acid and PHA combined with Rice Bran and Salicylic Acid that gently exfoliates the skin and evens out the skin texture, helps the skin to appear brighter and prevent clogging of the pores.

I have been using this serum also for a few weeks now and have been so impressed by the results that it has given my skin. I have had blackheads on my nose for years, no matter how many facials or extraction that I do they never seem to fully go away but since using this serum I have noticed a big difference in the blackheads around my nose, they appear a lot smaller and I also don't seem to be getting as many as usual. Another big difference in my skin has been the pores around my nose are also not as visible as they were before using this product, this has also helped to keep my skin looking and feeling fresher. I use this serum maybe twice a week in the evening along with the other serum to give me the best benefits from my skin.

The Inkey List Niacinamide Serum*

The Inkey List is probably one of my favourite skincare brands at the moment, they create amazing quality products all for an affordable price. I have been working with The Inkey List a lot recently and I have been very kindly gifted a few of their products to try including this Niacinamide Serum. This serum is described to be a lightweight serum that contains 10% Niacinamide that can be easily added to your skincare routine. Niacinamide which is a naturally occurring B3 vitamin helps to effectively reduce excess oil, blemishes and redness. Its thin consistency is formulated with 1% Hyaluronic acid to add hydration to the skin.

This was the serum that I was using on my skin before I started using the products from Selfess By Hyram and I was obsessed with it. I first tried out this product back in 2021 when I was first sent some items from The Inkey List. Niacinamide is an ingredient that I know works for my skin and having this serums main ingredient being Niacinamide is a reason why I knew I would love this product. Before using this serum my skin was having a bad time, and I was getting a lot of breakouts but as soon as I started using this serum (after around two weeks) I started to notice that I wasn't getting as many breakouts as usual and after a few months I only really got breakouts when it was my time of the month. This serum also helped to keep my oily skin at bay!

The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum*

Hyaluronic Acid isn't an ingredient that I would usually go for because I used to think that because my skin is oily it didn't need too many hydrating products but it definitely does. Eventhough your skin may be oily it can also be dehydrated at the same time, that's why I thought it was the perfect time to start using this serum. This serum is described to be an easily absorbed super serum that works across the multiple layers of the skin, hydrating the skin and leaving it looking plump and smooth and it also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Hyaluronic Acid can hold 1000x its own weight in water meaning it is the perfect ingredient for dehydrated skin.

I have been using this product for a few months now one to twice a week in the mornings and have noticed a great improvement in my skin. Eventhough I do have oily skin I do still have dehydrated areas on my face like around my cheeks and on my forehead and using this product has made my skin feel amazingly smooth. I don't use this serum daily because I don't feel like my skin needs it but if you have dry or dehydrated skin then this serum would definitely be for you!

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum

This is the serum that started off my obsession with serums, before using this product I didn't really use any serums on my face or I'd use them and forget about them but as soon as I tried this serum I was obsessed. It is one of the main products that really helped to improve my skin back when I started on my problematic skin journey. This serum helps to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. This serum has a high concentration of niacinamide at 10% which is supported in the formula by zinc to balance the visible aspects of over sebum production.

I was using this serum for months and I noticed major improvements in my skin, my skin became a lot less spotty and also oily. This was the serum when I discovered how much Niacinamide can improve blemish-prone skin. I think this serum worked the best for me because of its high concentration of niacinamide and its added benefits from the 1% zinc included. I used this product daily in the evening for a few weeks and started to notice the improvement, when you first start using this serum it is recommended that you use it once every other day to get your skin used to the product but once you do you can use it daily to get the best results from the serum!
