Recently I have started to pay more attention to the makeup products that I apply to my skin and have realised a lot of brands add harsh chemicals to their makeup that can irritate and cause breakouts to our skin. I've decided to use a lot more mineral makeup on my skin and here I'll explain why it's benefiting my skin.

My Experience Using Mineral Makeup

My skin type is quite oily and to help stop that I used to wear thick foundation and powder to keep my skin matte and I was doing this daily and my skin wasn't benefiting from it, I was getting a lot of breakouts and my skin was actually becoming more oily so it was a vicious circle. I then decided to start wearing more natural and mineral makeup. With adding mineral makeup to my beauty routine my skin improved a lot.

Before I started using mineral makeup I thought that there wouldn't be enough coverage or the shade ranges wouldn't be that great but I was wrong. A lot more brands are upping their games with mineral makeup by making the formulas better and making more shade ranges and colours.

Benefits Mineral Makeup Has for Our Skin

Some of the benefits of using mineral makeup are that they include fewer chemicals making it safer for more skin types including very sensitive and acne-prone skins, They also have fewer ingredients meaning less chance of irritation and protects the skin by creating a barrier between free radicals, the elements and most mineral makeup also includes an SPF.

Some more benefits are
  • Versatile pigments that can be used as all different beauty products such as blush, eye shadow, eyeliner and bronzer
  • Gentle ingredients to help promote healthy skin by not clogging pores
  • Cruelty-Free
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Better shelf like

Mineral Makeup Brands I've Tried

I've only tried a few different mineral makeup brands before and have enjoyed most of them. The main brand that I'm loving at the moment is Jane Iredale, I've mentioned this brand in my Beauty Samples That I'll Be Repurchasing post. I have been using the PurePressed powder which is a 4 in 1 powder which means it can be used as a foundation. powder, concealer and SPF. This powder I've been using daily for my foundation and I only need to put some concealer on beforehand and I have my desired amount of coverage (medium to full).

Another brand that I've used has been Bare Minerals, I have loved all the products that I have tried such as their loose powder foundations, liquid foundation and eyeshadows. Bare Minerals is more of a well-known brand than Jane Iredale and have a lot more products. They are also a brand that I think most people have tried a product from and loved. My favourite product from Bare Minerals is actually their Moxie Plumping Lipgloss in Maverick, what I like a product is that it is a natural approach to lip plumping.

Here are a few more Mineral and Natural brands for you to give a try...
I've also found a few specific High Street mineral foundations that I've tried
The only issue that I do have with Mineral makeup is that it has taken me a while to actually find some affordable Mineral makeup products, I know it must cost more for companies to make these products but it would also be nice if more high street brands added a few more Mineral products into their ranges.

Adding just a few Mineral makeup products into your makeup routine could help the health of your skin instantly. Do you use any other Mineral makeup products at the moment?

  1. I've never really thought about using mineral products, and wasn't actually aware that there was a difference. I'm definitely going to put some research into them now, thank you for alerting me!

  2. I wish I could use mineral makeup but my skin turns into one giant rash every time I use something with a mineral base. It's so annoying how crazy sensitive it is. It loves allll the chemicals and hates the natural stuff. I didn't know some of these brands made mineral makeup though so that was really useful information x

  3. Thank you! I didn’t realise how many chemicals are actually in normal cosmetic makeup so just changing one product to a mineral product will do the world of good! X

  4. I've been using Bare Minerals powders for a couple of years now and I agree with you about the skin health benefits. For me it's a worthwhile investment - the way I look at it, I wear my skin every day so why not? That said, I do wish the high street offered more by way of mineral make up - although I wasn't aware that No. 7 did so thank you for that tip! xx
